The City of Manhattan Beach Parks and Recreation Department is accepting applications for a part-time Administrative Clerk I. The Administrative Clerk I will, under direct supervision, assist with the registration and reservation division and ensure good customer service is administered to participants enrolling in activities. The Administrative Clerk I is expected to work independently and answer all general inquiries as well as inquiries specifically regarding Parks and Recreation Department activities and do other related work as required. Registration hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM. The Administrative Clerk I will work between 8 to 10 hours per week.
The listed tasks are essential for this specification and may include, but are not limited to, the following: Greet visitors and the general public in person and/or via the telephone answering questions and responding to inquiries referring them, when necessary to appropriate persons; prepare, type and process written communications; file and retrieve data; establish and maintain paper and/or electronic file and record-keeping systems; issue, receive, process various applications, permits, registration information, and other forms. May be required to work shifts, weekends, and/or holidays.
Hours: Monday through Friday with some flexibility. Part-time positions will not work over 960 hours per fiscal year.
Training and Experience: The position requires a high school diploma or GED with specialized administrative course work and/or training including at least six months of administrative experience.
License: Must have a valid California driver’s license at the time of employment.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Must have general knowledge of office methods, practices, procedures, and equipment; organizational skills; the ability to operate personal computer word processing, and spreadsheet applications; type 45 words per minute, corrected; learn the general terms, procedures, and operating details of the assigned department; read and correctly use the English language; effectively proofread assigned work; follow oral and written direction; work with confidential information; communicate effectively orally and in writing; and work cooperatively with City employees and the general public.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently sits, stands, listens, talks, uses a telephone, calculator, and personal computer with a monitor for extended periods of time. Must occasionally stoop, balance, or kneel and use arms, legs, and back to reach for, lift, and/or move objects up to 25 pounds.
