Walk in the park
The Redondo Beach Public Library in partnership withVitalityCitywill present a program on the importance of walking.Take part in a discussion that explores four scenic walking routes inRedondo Beach, which all start or end at the Main Library. A representative fromVitalityCitywill share tips that you can take to stay safe while walking. The meeting will be at the second-floor meeting room at the Main Library on Oct. 11 from 7-8 p.m. The program is free to the public.
The Redondo Beach Main Library will be transformed into a Halloween Carnival on Oct. 15 from 1-3 p.m. There will be booths offering free games including a ring toss, a fish pond and knocking down milk bottles. There will also be special crafts for the entire family to enjoy for free. You are welcome to come dressed up or as-you-are. The event will be atRedondo Beach’s Main Library at 303 N PCH in the second-floor meeting room.
Single-handed challenge race
The 8th Annual Frank Guernsey Single-Handed Challenge Race will be held on Oct. 15 at the Redondo Beach Yacht Club, located at 210 Yacht Club Way. Check-in time starts at 12 p.m. and the race begins around the buoys at King Harbor. James Dorsey an explorer, author and photographer will present and at a chicken Caesar salad dinner will begin at 6 p.m. For more information contact John Ellinwood at email@example.com.
Know your neighbor
Vitality Cities’ next wave of Walking Moai Groups will be held on Oct. 16 from 2:30-4 p.m. At the event community members will be paired based on common interests and placed in groups that will walk together, spend active time together or volunteer together over the course of a 10-week period. Kick-off events will be held at MiraCostaHigh Schooland Redondo Union High School There are currently more than 130 walking moai groups. Make $ on eBay
Carolyn Jacinto, a certified instructor trained by eBay will hold a workshop covering a wide variety of information to help you learn how to make money on eBay. You will learn all the basic steps you need to get started including setting up an account, listing an item and managing your seller account. The event is free and will be held in the second-floor meeting room at the Redondo Beach Main Library at 202 N PCH. The event will be on Oct. 18 from 6:30-7:30 p.m.
Healthy Kids Classes
The South Bay Children’s Health Center will be launching the ‘Healthy Kids Head to Toe’ program in the South Bay Community. The program is free and designed to teach and promote healthy lifestyles for the entire family. The program includes eight weeks of interactive family workshops focusing on healthy nutrition and fitness for the family as well as emotional health and the correlation with physical health. Families with children ages 6-11 are invited and encouraged to participate. The program begins on the evening of Oct. 18.
Teens are invited to participate in a photo contest in honor of Teen Read Week. The theme of the photo contest is “Your Favorite Book’s Title.” Teens are invited to create a visual, photographic representation of any book for their choice’s title. Props and a camera will be available at the library for participants to use, but you are encouraged to bring any items you feel will be necessary. At the end of the house, all photos will be voted on by the teens and the winner will receive a prize. The program will be held on the second-floor meeting room ofRedondo Beach’s Main Library at 303 N PCH. The event will be on Oct. 18 from 3:30-4:30 p.m.
The Redondo Beach Public Library now offers eBooks that are compatible with the Amazon Kindle. Patrons can now download popular and classic eBooks to any mobile device running the Kindle application. The library also offers audiobooks for use on a PC or Mac computer and mobile devices such as Smartphones, MP3 players and the Nook and Sony Reader.
